Yantian named national key cold chain logistics hub

From: Shenzhen Daily | Updated:2025-06-19

The National Development and Reform Commission has officially named Yantian as one of the latest additions to China’s national backbone cold chain logistics bases. Yantian stands out as the only hub from Shenzhen to make the list, highlighting its growing strategic importance in the country’s logistics and trade infrastructure.

The new designation is expected to significantly boost Shenzhen’s position within China’s international trade system. Officials said it will help accelerate the clustering of cold chain food import and export industries, improve connectivity along the cold chain supply route, and enhance China’s competitiveness in global agricultural logistics. The hub is also set to become a key driver of economic growth in the city and serve as a vital logistics corridor within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

Located within the Shenzhen Port National Logistics Hub, the 168-hectare Yantian base is situated within a national comprehensive bonded zone and a multimodal transport demonstration area. Spanning about 1.68 square kilometers, the facility is designed to provide warehousing, bonded logistics, cross-border supply chain services, and cold chain processing.

Cold chain-related facilities alone occupy 122 hectares — roughly 73% of the site. Currently, the base hosts six cold storage companies and 12 enterprises involved in cold chain trade and logistics. The operational cold storage capacity has reached 844,000 cubic meters, with annual throughput exceeding 1 million tons of cold chain food.
