The Zhongre Technology Greater Bay Area Operations Center officially opened in Yantian District on May 30, with a ceremony celebrating its launch and a cooperation event focused on technology transfer.
The goal is to harness the scientific expertise of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) while leveraging the Greater Bay Area’s (GBA) strengths in finance, trade, market integration, and technological collaboration. This initiative aims to drive both tech and industry innovation, helping to foster new, cutting-edge production capabilities.
During the event, the Zhongre Technology Operations Center and the Hong Kong Agricultural Innovation Research Institute Greater Bay Area Preparatory Office were unveiled. The launch marks a significant step in the development of the National Tropical Agricultural Science Center, designed to accelerate the commercialization of tropical agricultural research and brand development. The Hong Kong Agricultural Innovation Research Institute’s GBA facility will focus on expanding technological cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, contributing China’s expertise to the development of sustainable global tropical agriculture.
Tse Chin-wan, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Environment and Ecology, stated that by leveraging the Zhongre Technology brand, the parties involved aim to combine strengths in variety breeding, innovation, and talent development. The goal is “complementary advantages, mutual benefits, and jointly advancing sustainable agricultural development in the Greater Bay Area.” He also emphasized the importance of facilitating cross-border exchange and mutual recognition of tropical agriculture technologies, standards, and models, boosting brand value and supporting the high-quality growth of agritech enterprises in the region.
